Biography

Jon Niccum is a lecturer in the Department of Film & Media Studies and a Public Affairs Officer at KU. He also serves as a co-director of the Preparing for International Careers program for the College of Liberal Arts & Science and teaches a course every summer called Media Technology and Information-Gathering Strategies at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany.

A longtime writer and critic for the Kansas City Star, Jon is the author of several books, including The Worst Gig: From Psycho Fans to Stage Riots, Famous Musicians Tell All and Power Up: Leadership, Character, and Conflict Beyond the Superhero Multiverse. He has written and/or produced a wide range of films, including the bigfoot documentary Big Fur, the psychological drama The Sublime and Beautiful, the sports biopic Jayhawkers, and the neo-noir Time’s Up, Eve. His Kansas-set western screenplay Rifle Doll was recently optioned by Hollywood. Jon earned a degree in Film & Media Studies and a Master’s in Journalism – Integrated Marketing Communications at KU.
